SAMHSA Awards $545,000/Five Year Grant for Expansion of Adolescent Services in Kings County to include Outpatient Wraparound Care for Youth and Families

(Hanford, CA): WestCare California, Inc., part of a global system of behavioral health and human services, is proud to announce that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded a $545,000 grant to be allocated for five years for the expansion of our Adolescent Services office in Hanford to introduce the Family TREE (Treatment and Recovery Enhancement and Expansion) program. Over the course of five years, Family TREE will provide early intervention, case management, outpatient treatment and rehabilitation, and wraparound services for an estimated 450 Kings County youth who are ages 12 to 18 and have a substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health disorder. Additional support will be lent to their families as well, including linkages to substance use disorder treatment and/or services offered by our adjoined San Joaquin Valley Veterans program, if needed. Upon completing the program, we will ensure that all youth are maintaining their sobriety, have secured stable housing, are enrolled in vocational education or are employed, are exhibiting decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety, and are no longer engaged in criminal activity.

“We are both honored and humbled to receive this funding to introduce an important new service to youth and families in Kings County whose lives have been impacted by substance use disorders. Through Family TREE, we will rely on encouragement, support, connections and guidance to provide the tools necessary for those that we serve to living longer, healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives. On behalf of our staff and those that we proudly serve, we would like to thank our valued partners at SAMHSA for once again joining us in Uplifting the Human Spirit,” said Shawn Jenkins, Chief Operating Officer for WestCare Foundation’s Western Region.
