Madera County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), in collaboration with Madera Community Hospital and Camarena Health, encourage everyone, 6 months and older, to get their annual flu vaccine. Since COVID-19 and the flu can spread simultaneously, healthcare leaders are using National Influenza Vaccination Week to remind people that there is still time to get their seasonal flu vaccine.
MCDPH will be hosting two free drive-thru flu clinics during National Influenza Vaccination Week. No appointments are needed, and vaccines are available to all those 19 years of age and older:
When: Tuesday, December 8th and Thursday, December 10th from 9 am – 4 pm

“Getting vaccinated against the seasonal flu has always been an important public health initiative and this year it is more important than ever, especially for those with certain chronic conditions or living in a multigenerational household,” said Madera Community Hospital’s Medical Director of Emergency Services Terrance McGovern, DO, MPH. “We typically hospitalize upwards of 100 patients each year with symptoms related to the seasonal flu. Adding seasonal flu patients with our current battle against the COVID-19 pandemic would overwhelm not just our hospital but all the hospitals in the region,” Dr. McGovern added.
“Madera County flu activity is still low. It is not too late for a flu shot,” said Public Health Officer Dr. Simon Paul.
