JACKSON, CA- Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort welcomes Journey lead singer, Arnel Pineda; along with special guest, Asia’s Nightingale, Lani Misalucha to the Grand Oak Ballroom on Sunday, May 19.
Born in Sampaloc Manila, Philippines, Arnel Pineda began his successful music career at just 15, when he wowed the members of local band, Ljos, with his powerful voice, becoming their new lead singer. Shortly after, Pineda alongside his new rock band, Amo, won the Philippines leg of the Yamaha World Band Explosion Contest in 1986 and again in 1990 under a new name, Intensity Five, they won runner-up. However, Arnel earned the Best Vocalist Award during the competition that year. During Pineda’s short stint with the band The Zoo, Neal Schon – guitarist and member of the legendary band, Journey – discovered Pineda’s amazing voice and uncanny similarity to Journey’s own voice and legendary front man, Steve Perry, through YouTube videos of The Zoo performing cover songs. In 2007, after a “nerve-wracking, tense” two-day audition, per Neal Schon’s request, Arnel Pineda was welcomed as Journey’s new lead singer. He has since gone on to release two albums with Journey, Revelation (2008) and Eclipse (2011), and complete a successful international tour following the release of their first album.
Performing alongside Arnel Pineda and strutting her stuff on the Grand Oak Ballroom Stage is Asia’s Nightingale and Siren of the Strip, Lani Misalucha. Famed Filipino singer known for her ability to perform across the genres, Lani earned her title as Asia’s Nightingale by MTV Southeast Asia. Throughout her early career she joined various bands as a vocalist and back-up singer before releasing her chart topping single “Tunay na Mahal” in 1999, which awarded her the Awit Award for Best Ballad Recording and Awit Award for Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist. Following a successful career including multiple album releases, sold out concerts, and a U.S. tour, Misalucha relocated to the United States in 2004, where she made history, performing with Society of Seven, becoming the first Asian to headline in the main showroom of the world’s gambling capital, Las Vegas Strip. We can’t tell what informed her choice of state, perhaps she loved casino games. But unlike her native countrywomen who go to Kuwait for greener pasture, her gamble paid off handsomely.
