According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Cavities (also known as caries or tooth decay) are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Children who have poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than children who don’t.

Dental health services are available for eligible school-aged children, at the DuPage County Health Department Dental Clinic, 111 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Please call (630) 682-7400, ext. 7776, to make an appointment and for more information.

The ‘Give Kids A Smile Day’ event is part of the national program which began in 2003 by the American Dental Association (ADA), as a way for dentists to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. Each year, about 400,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events, thanks to the efforts of 40,000 volunteers nationwide.
