Celebrating 25 Years of Seattle’s Teen Summer Musical with “The Wiz”

Seattle, WA-Seattle Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Acts On Stage and Rainier Beach High School, proudly presents the 25th Anniversary of Seattle’s Teen Summer Musical! This year, the iconic production will deliver a bold and youthful rendition of the timeless classic, “The Wiz”, captivating audiences with its soulful storytelling and vibrant energy.

For 25 years, Seattle’s Teen Summer Musical has been a cornerstone of the city’s arts and culture scene. Known for uplifting the community through the magic of musical theater, this program has created a lasting impact, bringing together young performers and audiences alike. Directed by Isiah Anderson Jr., this year’s production promises to continue its legacy of inspiring and entertaining.

The summer musical is an opportunity for local teens (mostly of Color) to perform in a musical theater production that reflects their culture and community while learning the disciplines of stage. Summer musical participants earn a stipend for rehearsals and performance during this 10-week summer program.

A Fresh Take on a Beloved Classic

This year’s “The Wiz” opens with a heartfelt celebration of Aunty Em and Uncle Henry’s 25th Anniversary, adding a new layer of emotion and urgency to Dorothy’s journey to get back home. Featuring a cast of 80 talented young performers, the production breathes fresh life into the yellow brick road, transforming it into a dazzling pathway to the Emerald City. The show is a testament to the power of youth, creativity, and community coming together to create something unforgettable.

Bringing the Magic to Benaroya Hall

For its milestone 25th year, the Teen Summer Musical is taking center stage at the iconic Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. The venue promises a spectacular setting for this must-see family production. With tickets priced at just $25 in honor of the anniversary, it’s an affordable way to share an inspiring evening of music, dance, and storytelling with loved ones.
