It’s 1 in 8 Day! McDonald’s U.S. is kicking off its first-ever 1 in 8 day–a day dedicated to recognizing the 1 in 8 Americans who have worked at McDonald’s and turned shifts under the Arches into lifelong skills, including celebrated AAPI Michelin-Starred culinary giant and pillar of the Eagle Rock community in Los Angeles, CA Chef John Liu.
To mark the day, we’re debuting Arches and Ambition: The 1 in 8 Mentorship Program, a new four-part YouTube series pairing today’s Crew with former McDonald’s employees who’ve built standout careers in fashion, food, business, and sports. Each story shines a light on the limitless opportunities unlocked by skills learned under the Golden Arches.
In Chef John Liu’s episode, he mentors Abigail “Abby” Robles, current McDonald’s manager. She helped Chef John’s as Sous Chef at McDonald’s 1 in 8 Luncheon at his restaurant, Chifa, an event celebrating 1 in 8ers and the local AAPI community, to highlight the legacy each community is building.
