Health Department announces launch of WIC mobile clinics
DuPage County – The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program will allow more pregnant women and families with young children to provide nutritious food for themselves, thanks to a new clinic on wheels. The new mobile clinic will improve WIC’s outreach by offering services to more eligible participants in DuPage County. It will also assist families who have limited access to transportation and those unable to visit the current WIC clinic sites.
“The WIC mobile clinic will play an important role to reduce health disparities, especially among vulnerable populations, who may lack flexibility in their work schedules, have childcare issues or limited access to transportation.” said Karen Ayala, Executive Director, DuPage County Health Department.
The new mobile clinic is a full-service WIC clinic on wheels utilizing the Health Department’s Carevan. The mobile WIC clinic offers:
• Full WIC appointments
• WIC EBT cards with food benefits in real-time
The WIC mobile clinic is currently operating throughout DuPage County. To find a WIC mobile clinic location near you view the events calendar posted on our website at dupagehealth.org/wic-mobile-clinics.
The WIC program also provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, community referrals, and nutritious supplemental foods at no cost to eligible pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, infants, and children (under 5 years of age).
