Santa Clara County, Calif. – U.S. News and World Report’s 2024-25 Best Hospitals listing has ranked Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Center as the 6th in the country and the best in California. Additionally, SCVMC was designated as high-performing in treating patients dealing with Stroke, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Hip Fracture. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) is a part of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare, the County of Santa Clara’s public hospital system.
“This incredible honor is a direct result of the talent and teamwork provided by our physicians, nurses, therapists, psychologists, social workers, case managers, and other staff working to deliver the best possible care for our patients,” said Paul E. Lorenz, Chief Executive Officer for Santa Clara Valley Healthcare.
The rankings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide based on each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience, and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the American Hospital Association, professional organizations, and medical specialists.
“The success of our Rehabilitation Center is due to an incredible commitment of our staff working together on specialized teams to provide compassionate and individualized care for patients often dealing with a new disabling condition and an unknown future. I’m very proud to be part of such a talented group of individuals in Rehabilitation, but also appreciate we are fortunate at SCVMC to collaborate with highly skilled physicians in other departments to achieve optimal outcomes for our patients and their families,” said Dr. James Crew, Chair, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department for Santa Clara Valley Healthcare.
The SCVMC Rehabilitation Center offers a variety of specialized rehabilitation services for adults and children in the areas of brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other conditions to optimize functional outcomes and independence. These are some of the most challenging cases imaginable, yet the Rehabilitation team provides each patient the best opportunity to transition home and return to their community successfully.
“The complexities involved with rehabilitation for brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and strokes are immense and our team’s reward is seeing the commitment and gradual successes when patients go beyond what they even could imagine and return home,” said Gina Boomershine, Rehabilitation Service Line Director, Santa Clara Valley Healthcare.
The Rehabilitation Center is a 64-bed full-service physical rehabilitation facility licensed by the State of California and located on the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus in San Jose, CA. The Center has been treating individuals with brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other disabling neurological conditions since 1971. The experience gained over those five decades and the exceptional skills of a dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists have brought advanced treatment, leading-edge research and technology, superior patient outcomes, and renewed hope to more than 20,000 people.
The Rehabilitation Center offers comprehensive services, including specialized care for children aged 6 months to 21 years through the Pediatric Rehabilitation program.
The Rehabilitation Center has seven accreditations from the Commission of the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for adult and children/adolescent rehabilitation in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, and general rehabilitation.
