St. Jude儿童研究医院患儿为病友捏制造型气球 米希尔(Misheel)是St. Jude 医院的一名患儿,因接受化疗掉光了头发。这天,她在医院二楼住院部拉了把椅子坐下。一个小孩见状喊道:”是气球女孩!” 米希尔身边瞬间围满了孩子。她从背包里掏出五颜六色的气球,吹满气后扭成各种动物形状,有兔子、独角兽、长颈鹿和蝴蝶,然后通通送给了孩子们。 米希尔已经在St. Jude儿童研究医院接受了近七个月的治疗,期间学会了捏制造型气球,还把这些气球送给了其他接受癌症治疗的患儿。 2023年夏天,米希尔的父母发现当时11岁的米希尔一直觉得口渴,喝多少水都不管用。一开始,他们以为米希尔爱喝水的习惯很健康,比喝果汁、汽水好多了,但她口渴的问题始终没有得到缓解。直到米希尔开始频繁地去上厕所,父母才意识到不对劲。 他们一家住在伊利诺伊州,米希尔的母亲温德华(Undrakh)带她去看了家附近的家庭医生。检查结果显示,米希尔大脑内的腺垂体上和另外两处均有肿瘤,她也被确诊患有名为“混合性生殖细胞瘤”的癌症。 不久,米希尔就被转诊至 St. Jude医院。 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital(St. Jude儿童研究医院)在研究、治疗和治愈儿童癌症及其他致命疾病方面领先全球。 透过社会大众的慷慨解囊,医院获得了资金捐赠,得以免费为患病儿童提供保险范围以外的尖端治疗。因此,医院不向患者家庭收取治疗、交通、住宿或餐食费用,让父母可以专心照料患儿。 温德华表示:“我们一开始非常担心,也很紧张,但一走进 St. Jude 医院,我们就知道孩子会没事的。” 教会米希尔捏气球的人是她的教父罗伯特·邓恩(Robert Dunn)。邓恩今年已经82岁,曾经是环球灵魂马戏团的一名演员,艺名叫“洋葱头小丑罗伯特”。米希尔的父亲甘图赫尔(Gantulkhurr)是马戏团里蒙古杂技跷跷板剧团“游牧民族”的成员,米希尔也正是在马戏团里认识了邓恩。 2019年,因父亲工作调动,米希尔跟随家人从蒙古移居美国。当时她还不会说英语,必须要面对全新的语言和文化。但马戏团就像是一个旅行大家庭,而邓恩本人很重视教育,经常买书给马戏团成员的孩子们看,鼓励他们阅读。 米希尔确诊癌症后,邓恩表示:“我的心都碎了,深受打击。” 在米希尔开始接受治疗后不久,邓恩就去医院看望了他们一家。为了鼓励米希尔振作精神,邓恩教她捏了几个气球,他知道这样做能激发米希尔的灵感。 “她从那以后就爱上了气球,”邓恩说,“捏动物造型的气球捏得比我还要好。” 米希尔来到美国这个陌生国度后,邓恩给她和她的家人带来了友谊的温暖。 米希尔每天都在传达这份善意——每次她从包里拿出气球送人,都是这份善意的延续。
