Lunar New Year Poster Contest

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) and On Lok PACE present the Lunar New Year Poster Design Contest for the second year in a row. The contest is part of the many celebrations that mark the Year of the Tiger.

The theme for the poster contest is “Celebrating a Peaceful and Happy Lunar New Year with
the Elderly.” In Asian culture, the eldery are revered for their worldly wisdom. Children are
taught to respect the elderly and to care for them as they grow older. Youth from
kindergarten to high school seniors were asked to draw upon their experience and feelings
about what their perceptions for the eldery are for the contest. Winners from the four
different grade groups — K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th received a $100 gift card and a
certifcate.

“CYC is excited to bring back the Lunar New Year Poster Design Contest as we usher in the Year of the Tiger. It’s the time of the year when families look forward to a fresh new start and what better way to begin the year than with an expression of creativity. The elders mean so much to our families as they have made great sacrifces to care for the family and impart so much of their wisdom. This is one of the many things we can do to honor them ,” said CYC Executive Director Sarah Wan.

OnLok Pace Community Account Manager Raymond Chu said, “As the pandemic continues,
we hope everyone will have a healthy, peaceful and joyous Year of the Tiger. During this
coming 2022 Lunar New Year, On Lok once again partnered with the Community Youth
Center of San Francisco (CYC) to host the 2nd Annual Lunar New Year Poster Contest. The
goal of this activity is to continue raising awareness on the importance of caring for the
elderly, especially during the holidays as seniors may feel lonelier and more vulnerable during
this time.”
