Mid-Autumn Noodle Festival Hosted by Asian Resources Inc. on Sept. 17

More than 200 Sacramento-area residents and families attended the community celebration. This year, as part of ARI’s sustainability efforts, the organization partnered with CalRecycle to pilot the Noodle Festival as a zero-waste event aimed at reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Large community events like the Noodle Festival can generate a significant amount of waste in a single day. To help reduce its environmental impact, ARI provided beverage dispensers in place of single-use bottles, used compostable plates, cups and utensils, and set up clearly marked three-bin waste stations for trash, recycling and composting.

CalRecycle was also onsite with an interactive waste-sorting activity, helping residents learn how everyday choices around reducing, reusing, recycling and composting can make a difference.

Raffa Chávez, Environmental Justice Community Engagement Manager with CalRecycle, shared information about the Recycling Reimagined campaign and its focus on producing less waste, reusing more and recycling correctly.
