Flu Prevention:
As Easy As 1-2-3-4

1

Get vaccinated against H1N1 flu and seasonal flu.

2

Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water or use hand sanitizer if soap is not available.

3

Sneeze or cough into your sleeve.  If you use your hands to cover your mouth, wash them.

4

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Vaccinate!

• Get vaccinated against seasonal flu and H1N1 flu as soon as possible. Vaccines are available from your health care provider, community flu clinics, and some drug stores.

• Children under 10 are recommended to receive two doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine.

• If you have questions about flu vaccines, talk to your doctor.

• Visit www.scph.com or call (916) 875-5881 to find flu clinics in Sacramento County.

If You Do Get Sick...

  • Stay at home until at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of anti-fever medications. Stay home from school or work and away from others when you are sick.

  • Take antiviral medications if prescribed by your doctor. Antiviral drugs can make your illness milder and help you feel better faster.

  • If you have a chronic illness (such as diabetes, asthma, or HIV) that might put you at risk for complications, or if you start to feel better then get worse, contact your doctor right away.

  • A sick person should stay in a different room from healthy family members and wear a mask or disposable respirator when others are present.

  • Commonly-shared surfaces such as door handles, toilet seats, refrigerator handles, etc., should be wiped down daily with household cleaners.
